pyvisa-ni calls the nivisa which calls gpib which defaults to the NI gpib-32.dll (this is the old name, I do not remember the name now) Additionally, matlab has a gpib function that might be going directly to gpib dll without calling visa dll. This could explain why matlab works I have been struggling with the 32-bit NI VISA driver for Linux, but wanted to know when (or if) National Instruments produces a 64-bit driver, will PyVISA be affected? Said another way, could some of my issues be from PyVISA being 32-bit only, and not the driver? Said one last way, is it only the NI VISA driver that is holding back 64-bit operations
